What Is Sex Offender Registration?

If you are convicted of any crime, you could potentially be facing consequences that could have lasting implications. If the crime you are convicted of is related to a sexual offense, however, you are not only at risk of permanent and life altering consequences, but you are also at risk of being subjected to additional and even harsher penalties.

Under state law, anyone who has committed a crime of sexual nature is automatically required to register as a sex offender. This means that if you are charged with and convicted of a sex-related crime, you will be required to supply personal information to the Sex Offender Registry Board. Your address, your place of employment, any school that you may be attending and any other address that you might frequent will have to be shared and will be placed on the Sex Offender Registry.

SEX CRIMES IN PASADENA

California State law requires that anyone who has been convicted of charging certain types of sexually-related criminal offenses report to the sex offender registry. These offenses include:

  • Rape
  • Child Pornography
  • Child Enticement

You may also have to register as a sex offender for other inappropriate sex-related acts. How long you are required to be listed on this register depends on the specific crime you were convicted. For lesser offenses, you may have to be on the registry for a specific period of time. However, for serious offenses, you will likely have to be listed on the sex offender registry indefinitely.

The consequences of a sex-related crime and being listed on the sex offender registry come with serious and lasting penalties. With more than 20 years of experience, The Law Offices of Matthew Cargal is ready to defend you and clear your name. Contact an attorney today.
